College Basketball's Tarnished Twenty...
Duquesne University
Chalk up one more disappointing season for Duquesne. The Dukes broke a 10-game losing streak with a
surprise win over Virginia Tech, but dropped their last two games against Dayton and La Salle and
then lost to UMass in the first round of the Atlantic Ten Tournament. Coach Darelle Porter's new
recruits have brought along more than their share of off-the-court trouble, too. Following an
indictment for bank fraud, transfers Simon Ogunlesi and Jamal Hunter sat out the Dukes' early-season
wins. The players were charged along with eight other students for an alleged attempt to defraud PNC
bank out of $36,000. They were reinstated after entering not guilty pleas to conspiracy charges, but
they have hardly compensated Coach Porter for the headaches they've caused him. Ogunlesi outdid
himself to lead the team with 21 of the Dukes' 58 points against La Salle, but Duquesne lost the
game anyway.
