We've heard of coaches who are a little tough with discipline, but Delaware State coach Tony Sheals crossed the line and kept on going when he attacked one of his players after a recent 14-point loss at home. Sheals apparently blamed the Hornets' 87-73 loss to Hampton on senior guard Stefan Malliet and made improper physical contact in the locker room after the game. According to a College Hoops Insider'sreport, Sheals pushed Malliet over a chair and jumped on him. Sheals's misconduct makes legends like Bob Knight and Gary Williams look like Girl Scouts.

What made Sheals lash out at Malliet? It certainly wasn't that he's so accustomed to winning games that the shock of a loss pushed him over the edge, or that he feared the setback would cost his team a top seed in the NCAA tournament. The Hornets are only 5-14 in the Mid-Eastern Conference, and their 22 losses make this their worst season since 1979.

Sheals has been suspended indefinitely for his rowdy conduct. With assistant coach Randy Less reassigned to another post in the athletic department, former Delaware State assistant Harry Thayer agreed to serve as interim coach for the rest of the season. The Hornets won their first game under Thayer, but they finished the season with a 66-69 loss to Florida A&M.
